Hosanna House Leadership Group

General Information

The Hosanna House Leadership Group is a program for youth in grades 7-12. In partnership with the Wilkinsburg School District, the youth participate in a number of physical, social and career development activities. Afterschool from 2:30-6:00pm, Monday - Wednesday, the students will receive homework assistance, get help from our mentors to create individualized objectives to attain current grade-level equivalency and learn the importance and value of social and career etiquette through open forum teachings and exposures to professional workplace environments. In addition to having access to our computer lab, recreation center, gymnasium and swimming pool, the youth will also be able to participate in monthly field trips to local colleges and universities.

Hosanna House Leadership Group consists of three key components:

  • Education Opportunities
  • Social and Career Development Opportunities
  • Service and Recreation Opportunities

Education

The youth will get help from our on-site mentors with basic study skills, tutoring and homework. The students will also have the opportunity to participate in educational field trips to colleges, trade schools and universities in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. On these excursions, they will have the chance to tour the campuses so that they can see firsthand what college life is all about.

Social and Career Development

Students will engage in group discussions that will emphasize their self development, social enrichment and cultural awareness. They will learn to develop the life skills they need to successfully equip and prepare themselves for success at school, at home and in the community. They will learn about making right choices, time management, conflict resolution and career exploration.

Career Development

In the Career Development part of the program students will discover their strengths as well as areas for opportunity and improvement through the use of computers and the below hands-on training activities:

  • Professional Development/Job Readiness
  • Creating a résumé that stands out
  • How to properly fill out job application
  • Dressing for Success
  • Workplace etiquette and how to interact with co-workers and peers (do's and don'ts)
  • Resources for a successful job search; Internet/newspapers

Service and Recreation

Youth will participate in various outreach activities to provide community service to various agencies throughout the community. Community service projects include special events such as neighborhood cleanup and volunteering in various human service activities. Students will also participate in fun activities such as sports tournaments, movies, plays, and other competitions that involve students around the Pittsburgh area.
