Allegheny Intermediate Unit - DART Program Support Services

DART is an acronym that stands for Discovery, Assessment, Referral and Tracking. The purpose of the AIU's DART program is to find eligible children, ages three to five, who have developmental delays or disabilities.  Our highly qualified staff of special educators, therapists, medical personnel, social workers, and psychologists deliver services to preschoolers with special needs and  help support their families.  Early Intervention services are free.

Our staff of specialists first provides free screenings/evaluations aimed at identifying each child’s strengths and needs.  Appropriate early intervention services are then recommended and/or provided.  Early intervention services include developmental speech/language, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision, hearing, and family services.

For more information, please visit the DART Page on the AIU website or call them at (412) 394-5736.

Wilkinsburg Family Support Center

Family Support in Allegheny County is based on the philosophy that the most effective way to
insure the healthy development and growth of small children is by supporting the families and
communities in which they live. These programs are designed to increase the strength and
stability of families, to increase parents' confidence and competence in their parenting
abilities, to afford children a stable and supportive family environment. Family Support
programs seek to provide intensive, comprehensive, and culturally relevant services to
families through collaboration of public, private and community-based agencies. The
programming of family support represents a countywide "prevention agenda" focusing on the
critical area of strengthening families and network-building.

For more information, please visit the Allegheny Couny Family Support website or call them at (412) 871-7948. The Wilkinsburg Family Support Center is located in Suite 205 of Hosanna House, Inc.
